India’s star gymnast Dipa Karmarkar who was left out of India’s squad for Asian Games said that the uncertainty is getting very difficult for her. Karmarkar was dropped from the Indian team despite coming on top of the trials. The 30-year-old gymnast earlier launched an attack on the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the sports ministry for their silence.
Karmarkar was in an interview with The Indian Express, where she said “Every morning I wake up and hear different things coming in the media about the criteria applied after the trials. I was out of competition in the last 12 months and couldn’t have fulfilled the criteria in international meets, but I topped the trials and have more marks than the one who they are sending.”
The Olympian commented on not being informed about the changing rules officially and wished for someone to inform her something. She added, “Officially there is nothing told to me, and this is really demotivating and discouraging. The uncertainty is difficult to handle, I wish someone officially gave some clarity.”
Earlier, Karmakar targeted the silence of SAI and sports ministry in a series of tweets. She tweeted, “On this Independence Day, I am using my freedom of speech to discuss recent events that have proven to be very demotivating and discouraging. The #AsianGames2023, an event I have eagerly anticipated for the past two years, looks further than it is.”
Notably, as per some reports, the Tripura-born has been excluded from the squad as she didn’t fill the top-eight finish in the last 12 months, as per the government’s latest released criteria.
