Virat Kohli slammed his 74th international century on Sunday evening at Greenfield International Stadium, in Thiruvananthapuram by staying unbeaten at 166 in the third one-day international against Sri Lanka. Besides Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill too stepped up on the occasion as the top-order batter scored his maiden home century in the format with his 116.
Team India clinched a clean sweep in the first bilateral contest of the year as the visitors faltered at just 73/10 in the final match of the contest. Meanwhile, the duo joined each other after the match for BCCI.TV as they talked about their phenomenal performance on the day. While Virat Kohli admitted that he is extremely happy with the way his year has started (Player of the Match in the first and third ODI & Player of the Series) and aiming for consistency.
Kohli also took the opportunity to introduce net bowlers – Daya and Nuwan - and throw-down specialist Raghavendraa aka Raghu. “These three should get all the credit for my success. The way they bowl it prepares us for crucial games. In my honest opinion they give us world-class practice by bowling 145 and 150 kmph so that we stay ready for such pace in the game,” Virat Kohli said.
The 34-year-old further urged his fans to remember the names of the trio as they are the men behind his success. Additionally, Gill also informed that practising with the trio gives him a lot of confidence to perform at the highest level.
While talking to each other, Shubman Gill admitted that he was very frustrated when he got out at 70 in the first one-day international but was ‘determined in the final match to score big.’ Meanwhile, Team India will now host New Zealand in the white-ball series, starting from January 18 with the 1st ODI taking place at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, in Hyderabad.
