Gautam Gambhir, the former ODI World Cup winner, wasn’t best pleased with India’s dominating win against Pakistan by seven wickets, on Saturday, October 14, in the ongoing edition of the quadrennial spectacle at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In his chat with Star Sports, the 42-year-old talked about how India’s hammering of Pakistan along with domination, is bad for subcontinental cricket.
The India versus Pakistan match in the ODI World Cup 2023 wasn’t one-sided in the first half of the batting innings of the Men in Green. At 155-2 in the 30th over, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were in control, but the Indian cricket team made a grand comeback in the contest, after dismissing them in quick succession.
Pakistan were bundled out for 191, which allowed the captain Rohit Sharma to dictate terms with the bat from the start of the Indian innings. He scored 86 runs in just 63 balls, which included six fours and six maximums, to secure an emphatic win for Team India in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Speaking with Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir shared his views about India getting the better of Pakistan in a comfortable manner at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He was quoted as saying, as per the Times of India, “Hammering along with domination. You use this word very rarely, that too when you are playing against Pakistan. If you see the results, Pakistan used to hammer India like this for a long time. However, for the last many years, India have dominated. This is bad for subcontinental cricket.”
“We always used to say that if we have an India-Pakistan series, it will be competitive. An India-Pakistan series is not going to be competitive at all because there is a massive difference between the two sides,” he added.
