After the successful completion of the Test and ODI series, India lost their two consecutive T20Is against West Indies. The men led by Hardik Pandya might have failed to put in collective efforts as a team, but one young lad from the Indian side, named Tilak Varma, managed to make it to headlines. Varma opened his international career by scoring 39 off 22 balls and went on to score a half-century in his second game. After an electrifying performance, Varma’s childhood coach said that Varma is born to play big.
Varma scored 51 runs in 41 balls during the second T20I against West Indies on August 6, Sunday. After his performance, the Mumbai Indians player’s coach Salam Bayash revealed how excited the young cricketer was when he got to know about his T20I selection.
Bayash told News18CricketNext, “Bohot bada cricket khelne wala bacha hai ye. Thoda bohot khel ke khamosh hone wala nahi hai,” which can be translated to, "He is a big player. He won't stop after playing a little bit of cricket."
Bayash added, “The moment he got selected for the Indian team, he called me up on video call. I was driving at that point in time. But he kept on calling and finally, I parked my vehicle and picked up his call. He then broke the news to me that he was selected for the Indian team. Sir mera Indian team mein naam agya. He was delighted and so was I. I always believed that he is destined to be a big player and we just kept working hard towards this.”
Notably, Tilak represents Hyderabad in domestic cricket and Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. After his consistent performance throughout the years, Varma was selected for India’s T20I series against West Indies.
