Celebrated Mexican boxer Israel Vazquez lost his battle with sarcoma cancer and passed away at the age of 46. The confirmation of the same came by World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman. The late boxer disclosed his diagnosis on November 10 and lost his life a few days later. The boxer was known for his intense rivalry with fellow Mexican boxer Rafael Marquez, and he began his career in 1995.
In a very short span of time, the boxer made a name for himself in the boxing world after a series of memorable bouts. Some of the most memorable bouts of the boxer have been his four contests with Marquez between 2007 and 2010. These fights also earned the “Fight of the Year” honours and captivated fans in huge numbers. After his victory in 2008, the boxer was diagnosed with a detached retina that kept him out of action for more than a year.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman took to social media and offered condolences to his family. He wrote, “Israel is finally resting in peace. May God provide his family with strength. We extend all the support to his wife Laura, his kids, family, and friends during this difficult time. Thanks, champion, for leaving a special footprint. You will always be 'El Magnifico.’”
Vazquez’s last fight took place in May 2010, when he clashed against Marquez for the fourth time. During the fight, he was knocked out in the third round, eventually marking the end of his decorated career. Vazquez finished his career with an impressive record of 44 wins (32 by knockouts) and five losses.
