The two-day auction for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League kicked off on Sunday, November 24 at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The first day of the show saw ten franchises engaging in fiery bidding wars for top players from several nations. However, it was the Indian players including the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and others who stole the show. Star left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was the player going under the hammer, and he begged a whopping sum of INR 18 Crore as Punjab Kings used the Right to Match (RTM) card to retain him.

The first day of the auction saw several records shattering and in this article, we will have a look at the top five buys of the IPL 2025 mega auction. 

5. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal, the most successful IPL bowler with a total of 205 wickets entered a base price of INR 2 Crore. Gujarat Titans started the bidding war and were soon challenged by Chennai. Soon, they were joined by Punjab Kings when the bids increased to INR 5.75 Crore. Just when GT had almost signed the spinner, Punjab entered the war. After several high bids and an intense tussle between Punjab and Hyderabad, Chahal’s bid went to as high as INR 18 Crore. The Punjab-based franchise purchased the player for INR 18 Crore. Notably, Chahal has played a total of 160 matches in the IPL since his debut in 2013 and has a bowling average of 22.45.
