The doping cloud has once again come over Indian sports as many of its prominent athletes have been provisionally suspended after failing dope tests. The list of suspended athletes includes National inter-state women's 400m champion quarter-miler Anjali Devi and shot putter Karanveer Singh.
The two also pulled out of the Asian Athletics Championship currently underway in Bangkok where India have won 16 medals. The Anti-Doping Agency has also issued a notice to wrestler Vinesh Phogat who failed to comply with the rules of the test and has a couple of weeks to respond.
As per a list of provisionally suspended athletes from different sports, Anjali has tested positive for GW1516. The drug gives the athlete enhanced endurance but is also known to cause cancer. Kirpal has returned a positive result for stanozolol which is a steroid, while shot putter Karanveer Singh has been found positive for methandienone and SARMS enobosarm.
As for Vinesh, she was one of the prominent faces in the protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh who was accused of sexual harassment by the grapplers. Three failures in one year are considered an anti-doping rule violation and Phogat is looking to come back after a gap for the Budapest Ranking Series.
