Toyota, the Japanese car company, have made their return to F1 after a 15-year absence with the US-based Haas F1 Team in a partnership beginning immediately. Following the withdrawal of their own team at the end of the 2009 F1 season, Toyota will be the newest “technical partner” of Haas, to “share expertise and knowledge, as well as resources,” to make their partnership a successful one on and off the track.
Notably, the deal between Toyota and Haas will run alongside the latter’s arrangement with Ferrari, with whom Haas have worked since 2016, the year of joining F1. It has been stated that Toyota are going to provide design, technical and manufacturing services to the F1 team, while Haas will offer technical expertise and commercial benefits to their new partner.
Toyota branding will be there on the Haas cars driven at the upcoming US Grand Prix
With the help of this partnership, Haas are aiming to improve their development and competitive standing in F1, while Toyota are looking to gain knowledge and skills via the sport. After the announcement of the deal between Haas and Toyota at the Fuji International Speedway in Japan on Friday, October 11, there will be Toyota branding on the Haas cars driven by Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen at the upcoming US Grand Prix in Austin next weekend.
The boss of the Haas F1 Team, Ayao Komatsu, was quoted as saying about the new deal, ““I’m hugely excited that MoneyGram Haas F1 Team and Toyota Gazoo Racing have come together to enter into this technical partnership. To have a world leader in the automotive sector support and work alongside our organization, while seeking to develop and accelerate their own technical and engineering expertise – it’s simply a partnership with obvious benefits on both sides.”
“The ability to tap into the resources and knowledge base available at Toyota Gazoo Racing, while benefiting from their technical and manufacturing processes, will be instrumental in our own development and our clear desire to further increase our competitiveness in Formula 1. In return we offer a platform for Toyota Gazoo Racing to fully utilise and subsequently advance their in-house engineering capabilities,” he added.
