It was an eventful evening in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) for the Indian contingent. The Women's Fours Team beat South Africa 17-10 to win the historic Gold Medal in Lawn Bowls. This marked the fourth yellow metal for the nation in the ongoing Games. Earlier, India had emerged victorious over New Zealand 16-13 in the semi-finals.
The 38-year-old Lovely Choubey, the leader of the Indian team, is the constable with Jharkhand Police. Rupa Rani Tirkey works in the Jharkhand state sports department. Pinki works as a teacher in the DPS R K Puram in New Delhi. Nayanmoni Saikia hails from a farming family and works in Assam’s Forest department.
If talked about the game, the main motive of the player is to roll the ball and try to stop as closer to the smaller ball, also known as ‘Jack’ or ‘Kitty’. There are four categories in a Lawn Bowls game, namely singles, pairs, triples, and fours.
Generally, the first player to score 21 points wins in a singles game. In the four events, both teams can also decide mutually that the game will end after the culmination of a particular round. In the Finals, India and South Africa agreed to end the game after 15 ends.
