On Saturday, November 16, Jon Jones retained his heavyweight championship of the world after knocking out Stipe Miocic with a devastating spin kick at UFC 309 from the Madison Square Garden in New York City. After stopping Stipe Miocic in the closing stages of the third round, 37-year-old Jon Jones acknowledged Jesus Christ before stating that he has decided to maybe not retire when interviewer Joe Rogan asked about his future inside the octagon.

In his first fight in the UFC since March 2023, Jon Jones was quite dominant in the first round with Stipe Miocic barely getting saved by the buzzer. Miocic fared a bit better in the second round with a few punches of his own, but Jones was completely in control of the contest before a slugfest in the third round ended with a devastating spin kick from the champion, following which the challenger was there for the taking.

As far as my future in the octagon, I decided that maybe I will not retire: Jon Jones

After referee Herb Dean put the stop to the contest at 4:29 in the third round, Jon Jones retained the UFC Heavyweight Championship, and following which he was quick in commenting about the God’s above before his attention was turned towards his future in combat sports in the post-fight interview. In response to Joe Rogan’s question, he remarked, “As far as my future in the octagon, I decided that maybe I will not retire (to a massive cheer from fans inside the Madison Square Garden).”

“I have some conversation to have with Dana (White) and Hunter. We have some negotiating to do. If everything goes right, then maybe we will give you guys what you want to see,” said Jon Jones. The reigning UFC Heavyweight Champion has the longest undefeated streak in UFC history, not losing in 20 fights in a row inside the octagon stretching back to March 2010.

Meanwhile, former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic retired from the sport after losing to Jon Jones. He said, “It sucked I lost. I knew he was one of the best of all time. Came strong. I felt good. I was blocking and he caught me in the ribs. I'm done. I'm hanging them up. I'm retiring, thank God.”
