Multiple sources including leading transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, have now confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid is almost done. While the official communication is yet to be received from Madrid, it looks like the 26-year-old right-back will move to the Spanish capital at the end of the season on a free transfer. Trent’s current contract at Liverpool ends in June, and while there have been multiple rumours regarding an extension throughout this season, there haven’t been any concrete talks between the club and player regarding the same.

Real Madrid have been monitoring the contract situation of Trent Alexander-Arnold since almost a year now, and it seems like they will loop in the English right-back for a free transfer; which is a steal-deal considering the sheer quality that Trent possesses. By not offering a contract extension, Trent is not the only player Liverpool fear of losing at the end of this season as star players Mohammed Salah and Virjil Van Dijk will be without a contract at the end of the season as well.

He's given them a lot: Troy Deeney backs Trent over Madrid move after criticism from fans

A lot of fans and pundits are appreciating the smart transfer tactics of Real Madrid in potentially bringing on such a high-quality player into their side for free. However, this isn’t the first time Madrid has done that, as they have previously got big names like Mbappe join the team on a free transfer. Liverpool fans seem to be agitated over the whole situation as they feel that Trent is not being loyal to his boyhood club by leaving them.

Former English footballer Troy Deeney has spoken about the same, backing Trent’s decision to join Real Madrid. He said, “He’s given them a lot. And now, he’s not leaving to go to any other team, he’s going to Real Madrid, the biggest team in world football,” referring to his eight-year stint at Liverpool. In these eight years, Trent has featured in 349 games for the Reds and has a staggering 109 G/A till date, which is an impressive number for a defender.
