Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Glenn Maxwell did not shy away from taking a stance against social media trolls which several members of his team have been a victim of after his team's exit from IPL 2021. Notably, Bangalore succumbed to a four-wicket defeat in the Eliminator against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday to bow out of the competition.

With Virat Kohli earlier announcing that he would be stepping down as the leader of the contingent from next year onwards, the match turned out to be his last one as RCB captain. Maxwell, who was the side's leading run-scorer in the competition, failed to deliver in this must-win match and became a victim of a Sunil Narine delivery after managing 15 runs from 18 balls.

However, even since the defeat the team, many RCB players have been the victim of social media abuse. The star Australian cricketer expressed his thoughts on the same and termed it "absolutely disgusting." However, he was also quick to add a gratitude note for the "real" fans who have been with the team through it all and backed them despite them not winning a single title in 14 years.

"Some of the garbage that has been following on social media is absolutely disgusting! We are human beings who are giving our best each and every day. Try being a decent person maybe instead of spreading abuse,” Maxwell wrote on social media.

"Thank you to the REAL fans that shared love and appreciation for the players giving their all! Unfortunately there is some horrible people out there that make social media a horrible place to be. It is unacceptable!!! Please don’t be like them," he added.

The social media trolls stopped to a new low when they hurled abused at RCB all-rounder Dan Christian's partner. Christian even asked the fans to not resort to abuses and accepted that he had an ordinary match but that is part and parcel of the sport. Notably, Christian conceded 29 runs off 1.4 overs and made just 9 runs from 8 balls with the bat- which also happens to be his highest score this season.

Meanwhile Kolkata's win has taken them a step close to the finals but they will have to beat Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2 on Wednesday, if they want to meet Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on Friday.
