The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) on Thursday, May 16 announced India’s squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The six-member squad will be led by the Commonwealth Games champion and veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal and top ranked Indian women’s player Manika Batra.
Commonwealth Games and Asian Games medallist, G. Sathiyan has been named the reserve player in the men’s team, whereas Ayhika Mukherjee has been named as a reserve in the women’s team. The six players in the side for the quadrennial event have been selected on the basis of their world rankings.
The 41-year-old and top-ranked Indian shuttler, Sharath Kamal will be making his fifth and final appearance at the multi-sporting event, whereas for Manika Batra, who recently climbed to a career high of World No. 24 will be making her third straight appearance at the Olympics.
Moreover, it is to be noted that it will be the first-time ever that India will field players for the team events after the team events were introduced in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
