Carlos Alcaraz had his reign as US Open champion cut short by Daniil Medvedev as the Russian set up another New York final against Novak Djokovic on Monday, September 11. Djokovic beat the emerging American Ben Shelton to move to his fourth Grand Slam final of the year.
Djokovic has continued his amazing form in the US, dropping just one set on his way to the final. The Serbian beat Shelton in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). The 36-year-old beat Alexandre Muller, Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Laslo Djere, Borna Gojo, and Taylor Fritz to reach the semifinals. Djokovic will hope to end a five-year wait for a US Open title and claim his 24th Grand Slam singles title - a tally that would draw him level with Margaret Court.
Third-seeded Daniil Medvedev demolished World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in the first two sets (7-6, 6-1) but Alcaraz came back by winning the third set 3-6. Medvedev closed out the game with a 6-3 win in the last set. The Russian beat Attila Balazs, Christopher O'Connell, Sebastian Baez, Alex de Minaur, and Andy Rublev to get to the semifinal.
