Team India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav opened up on star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad’s absence from the national team. Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the first T20I against South Africa in Durban, Suryakumar Yadav added that he is not much concerned about Gaikwad’s chances as he is young and if it is meant to happen, he will feature in the national team soon.
Gaikwad, who led the Men in Blue to gold medal win in the Asian Games in 2023 in Hangzhou in China, continues to be sidelined from the national team despite being one of the finest batters across formats. This year, he last featured in the India T20Is against Zimbabwe, scoring 133 runs at an average of 66.50 and a strike rate of 158.33.
I feel, uska bhi number aayega. Uska bhi time aayega: SKY on Ruturaj Gaikwad
When asked about Ruturaj Gaikwad’s absence from the national setup, Team India T20I skipper highlighted that a lot of young players deserve national selection, but will have to wait for their turns. "Rutu (Ruturaj) is a fantastic player. He has been performing consistently across all formats, wherever he plays. There are a lot of players who have been performing well even before him, so there is a routine or process that I think that the management has come up with, so it is important to follow that," the Indian captain said.
"He is young and is doing well. I feel, uska bhi number aayega. Uska bhi time aayega. (His time will also come)," SKY further added. The 27-year-old Maharashtra player is currently featuring in the unofficial Tests against Australia A down under. However, he hasn’t been in great form there as he has mostly registered single digit scores with his only double-digit score of 11 coming in the first unofficial Test which Australia A won by seven wickets.
