The Video A ssistant Referee, which is more commonly known as the VAR, faced some issues in the concluding days of the La Liga 2022-23. However, the problem leading to it has been solved and the technology will be back in service from the start of the 2023-24 season.

The issue was that four of the five referees from the particular VAR body could not make it to the Technical Committee of Referees, which consisted of Gonzalez González, Medié Jiménez, Estrada Fernandez, and Iglesias Villanueva. This situation forced the designation of Las Rozas referees who are not specialised in these roles along with the international ones as referees for the VOR room (VAR operation room, video referee assistant).

The VAR is expected to resume its regular duties by August 11, when Almeria will lock horns against Rayo Vallecano in the season opener, according to Mundo Deportivo. To put it another way, only the new four referees from the particular VAR organisation will do these duties in addition to the eight present international referees.  In addition, VAR will be used under the same circumstances as last season, without the semi-automatic offside.

There are certain referees who are still unsure of their remuneration for the upcoming season because La Liga and the RFEF have yet to reach an agreement on the new arbitration agreement after the last one expired on June 30.

The referees will also receive technical training on important ideas like handball, offside, and more in addition to the new game rules that will be implemented for the 2023–24 season.
