On Saturday, May 4, after Real Madrid secured the La Liga title for the record-extending 36th time, their star winger, Vinicius Jr took a dig at his Barcelona counterpart Ronald Araujo. The 23-year-old quoted a post with the caption, “La nueva era (The new era),” in response to comments from Ronald Araujo last year about bringing in a “new era” with Barcelona.

Real Madrid won their recent La Liga match against Cadiz at the Santiago Bernabeu 3-0 through goals from Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham, and Joselu, to put themselves 13 points ahead in the league. The second-placed Barcelona had to win their match later in the night to keep their hopes alive of defending the title, but they lost to Girona 4-2 at the Estadi Montilivi, handing the keys to the kingdom to their arch-rivals.

Notably, following Barcelona’s 3-1 win in the Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid in 2023, Ronald Araujo declared that the “new era” is upon everyone with his club ready to dominate football in Spain. Vinicius Jr, who hadn’t forgotten about the comments from Ronald Araujo, took a year to take a dig at him after Real Madrid won back the La Liga title from Barcelona, speaking about “The new era” on the X social platform with the Galacticos.

Earlier, Vinicius Jr also sent out a post on X, to celebrate the La Liga title triumph while playing for Real Madrid. It read, “CAMPEONES!!!! VAMOOOOOOOOS!!!! (Champions!!!! Let’s go!!!!).”

Moreover, there are still four match days to go in La Liga, and Real Madrid are 13 points ahead of the rest of the competition. Girona and Barcelona are placed in the second and third spots respectively in the standings, ahead of Atletico Madrid.
