Indian batter Virat Kohli failed to perform on his Test comeback as he was dismissed for just six runs. In the first innings of the first Test against Bangladesh, Kohli was forced to walk back to the pavilion after a below-par knock. Bangladesh are touring India for a multi-format series, starting with a two-match Test series, which began on September 19 in Chennai. The series saw Kohli make his Test comeback after missing the England series earlier in the year due to the birth of his son.
The batting icon was dismissed by Hasan Mahmud, who was responsible for destroying India’s top order on Day 1 of the game. Kohli got off to a good start with some well-executed shots, but failed to continue the form and fell to the ball outside off-stump. Kohli got a nick while attempting a cover drive that went directly to the hands of wicketkeeper Litton Das in the 10th over.
India get off to disastrous start in first Test against Bangladesh
Rohit Sharma and Co. kicked off their Test season on an unexpected note against a lower-ranked Bangladesh. The hosts lost their opener and skipper Sharma on six runs off Hasan Mahmud delivery in the sixth over itself before losing Shubman Gill on an eight-ball duck in the eighth over. Kohli, who had missed the England series due to the birth of his son was expected to do some magic, but unfortunately, even he missed delivering runs with his bat.
Bangladesh won the toss, which happened for the first time in 42 years in Chennai that a team opted to field first after winning the toss. Needless to say, the decision seemed to have worked out well for the visitors. Earlier, speaking at the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said, “We have prepared well, so we should back our potential and play the way we know. Looking at the 10 Test matches, every match is important. But we want to focus on what lies in front of us. We came here a week back, we had a good prep leading up to this one. We feel confident.”
