India's ongoing T20 World Cup game against Namibia is Virat Kohli's last as the skipper of the team in the format. A month before the tournament got kicked off, he had already announced his decision to step down as India's T20I skipper after the end of the ongoing world event. As India failed to progress to the semi-final, the match against Namibia at the Dubai International Stadium will see the Men in Blue ending their campaign at the mega event with Kohli being the skipper in the format for the last time.

Since Kohli's announcement, speculations have been rife that five-time IPL champion Rohit Sharma will take over the captaincy duties from him. And Kohli's recent statement to media has only put another confirmation to the unhidden news.

Here is what Virat Kohli said:

After winning the toss against Namibia in the T20 World Cup game on Monday, Kohli not only felt proud of the team he led, but also hinted that Rohit will take over the captaincy in T20Is.

"It's been an honour for me, I was given the opportunity and I tried to do my best. But it's also time to create some space and move forward. I've been immensely proud of how the team has played. Now I think it's time for the next lot to stake this team forward. Obviously Rohit is here and he's overlooking things for a while now," said Kohli after winning the toss against Namibia on Monday.

Under Virat Kohli, Team India failed to bag a single major ICC trophy, despite entering the final of 2017 Champions Trophy, semi-final of 2019 ODI World Cup and the final of World Test Championship in 2021.

Talking about Team India's campaign at the ongoing mega event, they started with a 10-wicket loss to Pakistan before suffering a similar embarrassing defeat to New Zealand in the next game, which was rightly assumed as the virtual quarter-final. Though the Men in Blue registered comprehensive victories against Afghanistan and Scotland, they will stay at least two-run short of New Zealand, who will follow Pakistan to the semi-final.
