Both Indian star batter Virat Kohli and South African cricketer Faf du Plessis are reckoned as one of the great players. While Faf retired from Test cricket to focus on the shortest format of the game, the former India skipper has surpassed several records to remain consistent across the three formats.
Both these stalwarts of the game play together for their IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. While Kohli served as the captain of the franchise for the longest time, he later passed on the baton to Faf du Plessis ahead of IPL 2022.
Ahead of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, the South Africa cricketer opened up on leading the Bangalore-based franchise with Virat Kohli being one of the players in an interaction with The Grade Cricketer.
On being asked about building a relation with the Indian batter rather than competing with him, he responded stating, “He’s a much bigger alpha (male) than me. You don’t try and compete. The ego is the thing where peacocks generally clash. Then like the feathers come out and you want to see who has got the shiniest in the room”.

“I don’t try and outshine someone else in the dressing room. I try and build a relationship. With Virat, that was exactly my point of entry”, he further added.
While he further went on hailing Kohli as ‘superhuman'. “I had played against him for so long. He is one of the most competitive guys in the world of cricket to play against. You sit there and you go - how does this guy have so much energy? Every single time a wicket falls, doesn’t matter if it’s a No. 11 or an opening batter, his passion for celebration is like you just have to go, ‘I’ll take my hats off to you’. He’s a superhuman”, said the right-handed batter.
