Virat Kohli to replace Faf du Plessis as RCB captain in IPL 2025: Reports
As per the recent developments, the Bengaluru-based franchise is looking to give Kohli another opportunity to lead the side if they do not get a suitable candidate in the IPL 2025 mega auction. With the franchise still in search for their maiden title in the IPL, if reports are to be believed, RCB could adopt their old strategy in terms of leadership with Kohli leading the side to victory.
The news came into limelight as ESPNcricinfo in its panel discussion named Retention Chatters revealed the decision of Kohli to once again return to the helm. It is to be noted that Kohli has been with the franchise since its inaugural edition in 2008 and was picked as their full-time captain in 2013. He stepped down from captaincy ahead of IPL 2022 to manage workload, with Faf du Plessis taking over the reigns.
Speaking of Kohli’s stats at the helm, he has led the franchise on 143 occasions. Out of them, RCB has won 66 matches while ending up on the losing side in 70 matches. In IPL 2024, Kohli finished as the top run-getter, bagging the Orange Cap after amassing 741 runs from 15 matches at a strike rate of 154.69.
