On Tuesday, April 1, Big Bash League (BBL) franchise, Sydney Sixers made a startling revelation. The BBL franchise, took to their social media to announce the signing of star India batter and former skipper Virat Kohli. The franchise, who already boosts of players like Steven Smith and others, confirmed that the 36-year-old has been signed for a period of two years.

“King Kohli �� Virat Kohli is officially a Sixer for the next TWO seasons! ✍️” Sydney Sixers captioned a post on X. However, the announcement garnered over 7.3K likes and over 121K views already at the time of writing, the post just had a catch to it. Despite hours of posting Virat Kohli’s signing, the franchise then took to X (formerly called Twitter) to confirm this as an “April Fools” post.

Hours after Sixers’ post, the franchise revealed that it was just a prank to celebrate April Fools’ day, which is celebrated on the first day of the fourth month of the year. Seeing this, the fans responded to the post and appreciated the humour from the three-time champions.

It is to be noted that Virat Kohli has been a stalwart of the game and is currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The 36-year-old is the highest run-getter in the history of IPL with 8094 runs so far with eight hundred and 56 50s to his name.

In the ongoing edition, after being retained by the franchise, Kohli has amassed 90 runs from two matches with his highest score of 59* coming against defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the tournament opener in Kolkata. His side will return to action when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take on Gujarat Titans (GT) at their home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, April 2.
