Pakistan Super League (PSL) will return with its 10th edition on April 11, with the opening match between defending champions Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars. A week ahead of the marquee event, Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has countered the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) claims that the upcoming edition will be the best installment of the mega T20 tournament. In his views, the condition of stadiums have improved but the framework of the tournament will be retaining its old structure, which makes the evaluation of bigger and better performances unrealistic.
“How is PSL 10 bigger and better? Someone explain to me — when we say these hollow words that this is going to be the best PSL, what does that even mean? How will it be the best PSL? It’s the same teams. We’ve had nail-biting finishes every year — seven close matches annually, even last year’s final went to the last ball. So what’s different? Same four stadiums, same stadium experience. Yes, the stadiums are better this year, but is that alone enough to make it the best and biggest PSL ever? No. I’m fed up with these empty claims,” said Tareen.
He also added, “I am tired of these promises from the PCB and management about making this the biggest season. What exactly are we doing differently to make it the best? Someone explain. They claim it will be bigger while repeating the same things as last year. How? I genuinely want to know. Is there a plan? Are we doing anything new to elevate it? If so, great. But it’s disappointing to see our successful brand being neglected.”
Multan Sultans to kick off their campaign against Karachi Kings on April 12
Multan Sultans will start their PSL 2025 campaign against Karachi Kings at the National Stadium, on April 12. Mohammad Rizwan will be expected to lead the side from the front to help the team win the title again after four years. Back in 2021, Rizwan guided Sultans to their maiden trophy win after beating Peshawar Zalmi in the final of the edition.
Karachi will be playing under their new captain David Warner after Shan Masood’s sacking from the leadership role. The upcoming T20 competition will be played from April 11 to May 18 and during this period, 34 matches will be played. The final will be hosted by Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. This is the first time PSL's schedule is clashing with the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL).
