Despite scoring the highest runs in the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 and surpassing legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record, Virat Kohli failed to win his second ODI World Cup title as India lost the final against Australia. Following the CWC 2023 upset, the 35-year-old Indian star has reportedly decided to take a break from the white-ball cricket as India are scheduled to tour South Africa in December.

Following the CWC 2023, Team India and Australia are squaring off in the five-match T20I series with the hosts taking a 2-1 lead after three matches. The Men in Blue will next travel to South Africa to play three T20 internationals, three ODIs, and two Test matches against the Proteas.

As per the reports, Kohli has decided to take a break from the white-ball cricket and informed the same to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). However, the former Indian skipper will feature in the two Test matches against South Africa following the white-ball series.

The Indian Express quoted a BCCI source saying, "He (Kohli) has informed the BCCI and selectors that he needs a break from white-ball cricket and he will get back to them about when he wants to play white-ball cricket next. At the moment he has informed the BCCI that he will be playing red-ball cricket, which means he is available for selection for the two Test matches in South Africa."

Virat Kohli had a spectacular World Cup at home as he became the first batsman to cross the 700-run mark, scoring 765 runs in 11 innings, which includes nine 50+ scores as he registered three hundreds and six half-centuries to become the highest run-getter in a single edition of the ODI World Cup.
