Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga announced retirement from Test cricket on Tuesday, August 15. The 26-year-old spinner’s decision to call it quits from the longest format of the game comes in line to prolong his white-ball career. Additionally, Hasaranga’s decision to retire from Test cricket was accepted by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
The Sri Lanka cricket board in a release informed that the 26-year-old leg-spinner will retire from playing Test cricket as he aims to prolong his career as limited over specialist. While accepting Hasaranga’s decision, the CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, Ashley De Silva quoted, “We will accept his decision and are confident that Hasaranga will be vital part of our white-ball program going forward.”
It is to be noted that Hasaranga has featured in four Test matches for the Island nation after making his debut in December 2020. He last played a Test in August 2021.
On the other hand, the Sri Lanka bowling all-rounder has been a regular in the country’s white-ball setup. He has represented the country in 48 ODIs and 58 T20Is so far.
