Bangladeshi super fan ‘Tiger Robi’ was reportedly attacked during the second Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park in Kanpur. After registering a comprehensive 280-run win against Bangladesh in the first Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India is currently hosting Bangladesh in the second Test in Kanpur. 

Rohit Sharma-led Team India won the toss and elected to field first. Although, Day 1 saw only 35 overs being bowled as play was called off early due to incessant rain. But on the first day, a Bangladesh superfan, Tiger Robi, who is often seen in the country’s matches, was rushed to the hospital.

Was Tiger Robi really assaulted?

Hours after his hospitalisation, the real reason behind came into limelight, bringing an end to widespread speculation. The Kalyanpur Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Abhishek Pandey while speaking with PTI informed that Tiger Robi was not assaulted and hospitalised because of feeling unwell. His condition deteriorated due to intense heat and dehydration, which led to him collapsing. 

The Bangladeshi superfan later expressed his gratitude to the Kanpur police for their quick response and assistance. He also thanked officers for escorting him to the hospital and ensuring he received timely treatment. “I fell ill and the police brought me to the hospital and got me treated. Now I am feeling much better. My name is Robi and I have come from Bangladesh,” Robi said as informed by PTI.

Speaking of the second Test, India won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. In the 35 overs bowled on Day 1 of the second Test, the visitors posted 107/3 with Monimul Haque nearing his half-century (40 off 81) and Mushfiqur Rahim (6 off 13) in the middle. Akash Deep got two wickets, while first Test star, R Ashwin got the big fish in captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto. 

At the time of writing, start of Day 2 was delayed due to wet outfield. While the first sessions was washed out, continuous drizzle have forced further delay in the game.
