English pacer Mark Wood is known for his pace and guile and certainly made his mark in the first innings of the third Ashes test, picking up five wickets for just 34 runs. Wood rattled the Aussie batting lineup with his vicious pace and has translated his form in his batting as he hit Pat Cummins and company all over the place to score 24 off just eight balls.
Wood pulled a fearsome Mitchell Starc. who cleans up tailenders for fun, over the square leg boundary on the first ball of the second session and his opening ball. The pacer followed up the six with a four as he backed away and slashed another short ball to the boundary.

On the next ball, Wood pulled another one over the fence to get 16 runs off his first three balls. Following over, he pulled Australian captain Pat Cummins for another six. The pacer was eventually out two balls later as he top-edged a short ball to Mitchell Marsh at midwicket and ended the innings at 24 off eight balls.

When he came to bat Australia were on top as England were 142 for seven with Cummins breathing fire. Wood’s innings was a breath of fresh air into the England innings as Ben Stokes played another blinder to guide England to a score of 237. Almost all English tailenders hung around to provide Stokes support who scored 70.
Australia have a handy 26-run lead but the momentum is with England as they scored quickly in the closing stages of their innings. The game currently hangs in balance and Australia will come out and attempt to close out the series in this game itself.
