Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane returned to form as he scored a century for Leicestershire in the ongoing County Championship division two fixture against Glamorgan. The 36-year-old brought up his second century in the County Championship cricket and the first three-figure mark for Leicestershire, to keep them in the contest on day four at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
While batting in the second innings for Leicestershire on day four of the match, Ajinkya Rahane smashed back-to-back fours against Kiran Carlson in the 70th over to reach his hundred. He got out after scoring 102 runs off 192 balls, an innings which included 13 fours and a six. This was also Ajinkya Rahane’s 40th hundred in his first-class career in his 190th First-class match.
Leicestershire look to take the lead in second innings against Glamorgan
Leicestershire suffered a big setback in early in the match as they were behind 299 runs after the first innings. Batting first, Leicestershire were bowled out for 251 runs with Ajinkya Rahane and Peter Handscomb being the top scorers with 42 runs and 46 runs respectively. In reply, Colin Ingram replied with 257 runs off 375 balls as Glamorgan declared the first innings on 550/9 with a massive first innings lead.
Coming to bat in the second innings, Leicestershire lost three wickets for 74 runs. After that, Ajinkya Rahane and Peter Handscomb took the charge in the second innings with a partnership of 183 runs. When Rahane got out after scoring a century, Handscomb was also nearing his hundred as Leicestershire were 271/4, finding themselves behind 28 runs after the end of session one on day four.
