Alexander Volkanovski, the Australian MMA fighter, successfully defended his featherweight championship in the main event of the UFC 290 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. On July 8, Saturday, “The Great” knocked out his opponent Yair Rodriguez from Mexico, late in the third round of their pulsating encounter and was spotted partying with NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal and 2023 NBA champion Jamal Murray of the Denver Nuggets.
The 34-year-old combat sports athlete started the bout with a great show of wrestling skills in the initial rounds. As their fight moved into the third round, Alexander Volkanovski hit Yair Rodriguez with a massive right to knock him down, before pounding him with brutal ground strikes. It led to the referee putting the stop to the contest and awarding it to the Australian.
Following his big win, the UFC Featherweight Champion was seen partying with former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal and Nuggets guard Jamal Murray. In the viral clip, Shaq, essaying the role of a DJ in the background, played music for the audience, while Alex recorded the video for everyone to see.

Alex Volkanovski goes face-to-face with Ilia Topuria following his successful championship defence
After defending his UFC Featherweight Championship against Yair Rodriguez, the Australian went face-to-face with Ilia Topuria, the undefeated combat sports athlete in the featherweight division. At UFC 290 in Las Vegas, Alex Volkanovski was quoted as saying to the Georgian-Spanish fighter, ““You might be undefeated but I’m coming for that zero.”
Ilia Topuria has the 14-0 win-loss record in the MMA, winning eight matches via submission and four matches via knockout. Meanwhile, the 34-year-old champion has a 26-2 win-loss record in the sport, including 13 knockouts and three submissions.
