In the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC), on Monday, Los Angeles Knight Riders hosted the Washington Freedom in match number 11 at the Church Street Park in Morrisville. The Steve Smith-led Washington Freedom however won the toss and invited the LA Knight Riders to put the score first on the board.
The Sunil Narine-led side were bundled out for 129 in 18.4 overs with Saif Badar finishing the innings as their highest run-scorer with a 28-ball 35. For the Freedom’s, it was Saurabh Netavalkar, who starred with the ball, finishing with the figures of 4/35 in 3.4 overs, while Maxwell too got three wickets to his name.
In the run chase, the Washington Freedom comfortably chased the total in 16 overs with Travis Head scoring a crucial half-century while Steven Smith took the side home with his unbeaten 42. During the Freedom innings, an instance shook the cricketing world as Russell’s fiery delivery broke Head’s bat.

The incident took place in the second over of the innings. Russell bowled a pacy short-pitched delivery which Head tried to pull. While his attempt for a pull short, the willow was left in two pieces. Although the handle was left in Head’s hand, the rest of the bat flew towards the mid-wicket, video of which is going viral on social media.

After an eight-wicket win, the Steven Smith-led Washington Freedom went to extend their unbeaten run in the tournament as they consolidated their position at the top of the points table. The LA Knight Riders, on the other hand, are placed fifth with just one win from five games so far. In their next fixtures, the Washington Freedom will take on MI New York on Wednesday, July 17 (IST) at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, while the Knight Riders will take on Seattle Orcas at the Church Street Park in Morrisville on July 18 (IST).
