World number one Aryna Sabalenka looked emotional after vanquishing America’s Jessica Pegula in the 2025 Miami Open final. Sabalenka won with a scoreline of 7-5 6-2 in the final of the WTA 1000 event at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. This is her second title win in 2025 after winning the title in Brisbane in January. Following a loss in the final at Indian Wells to Russia’s Mirra Andreeva this month, Sabalenka displayed tenacity to pull off the latest success. "I'm super happy to have this trophy, I was able to play my best tennis in the final," said Sabalenka after winning the title.
Both Sabalenka and Pegula struggled to hold their serve in the opening set and it led to seven breaks of serve However, Sabalenka turned the momentum in her favour when the American was serving to keep the set alive after going down by 6-5. The 26-year-old played a forehand shot to daze Pegula, to win the set. Following that, Sabalenka didn’t relent and forced her opponent to give up in the contest, taking the second set with ease. With this win, Sabalenka has recorded her third straight victory against Pegula in a final, this time to win the Miami Open.

Sabalenka also commended Pegula’s competitiveness in the match. During the trophy-receiving ceremony, Sabalenka said she would share the trophy, prize money, and other rewards with Pegula, if she could. "If I could share the trophy with someone, trophy, prize money, points, everything, Jess, I would definitely share it with you. You're an incredible player and you always push me to play my best ... it's always great matches, a great level of tennis," said Sabalenka in her words of appreciation for Pegula.
The Belarus tennis star has now eight WTA 1000 titles and 19 trophies on the overall WTA tour. She achieved 17 trophies on hard courts which also include her three Grand Slam singles titles - the 2023 Australian Open, the 2024 Australian Open, and the 2024 US Open.
