The second day of the fourth Test between India and Australia was an eventful one for both teams. While the visitors added 225 runs to their overnight total, India dismissed the six batters to ensure they stay relevant in the game. R Ashwin led India’s charge with the ball as the veteran off-spinner picked up six wickets. Meanwhile, the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill ensured India don’t lose a wicket as the pair batted beautifully for ten overs.
Captain Sharma was solid in his defence and blocked almost everything that was thrown at him. Shubman Gill, on the other hand, ensured runs also keep coming for India. Working on the same tactic, Gill stepped out against Nathan Lyon on the second ball of the last over of Day 2 and smoke a six straight down the ground. As the shot was firmly timed, the ball landed by the sight screen.
It then sneaked through gaps and went inside the white sheets laid to cover the screen. While the groundsmen tried to find the ball for a while, they gave up and the umpires had to call for a different ball. But a fan decided to come to the rescue as he jumped in and went inside those sheets to find the ball. He tried but failed on the first attempt. However, with help from fellow spectators, the guy successfully rescued the ball and he was chuffed to bits after discovering it.
While all this was happening, the play was halted and everyone had their eyes on the boy. Ravi Shastri, who was in the commentary box took the moment to bring out his special voice and narrated the entire episode for the fans watching on air.
“Oh! He has found it. He has found gold,” were Shastri’s words.
