Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu created history by scoring the first century in Women's Asia Cup history. Playing against Malaysia at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Athapaththu posted a massive score of 119 in 69 balls to help post a total of 184 after which she brought out a special celebration to commemorate this incredible achievement.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat first but lost their first wicket on the first ball of the second over. From here, Chamari Athapaththu took charge and built crucial partnerships with Harshitha Madavi and wicketkeeper Anushka Sanjeewani as she neared the milestone.

After reaching her half-century off 35 balls, Athapathu reached the three-figure mark in the final over of the first innings with a massive six over long-on. After completing her third T20I ton in 63 balls with 14 fours and seven sixes, the veteran superstar had an energetic celebration as she was seen thumping her chest after bowing down to her team.
After this ton, Chamari Athapaththu has scored 3153 runs from 136 matches at an average of 24.44. Before this game against Malaysia, the 34-year-old has hit T20I centuries against Australia and Scotland. Talking about the all-time run-scorers list, Athapaththu is seventh in the Women’s T20Is after Suzie Bates, Harmanpreet Kaur, Meg Lanning, Smriti Mandhana, Stafanie Taylor and Sophie Devine.
