Though Kallis was run out, Gayle continued attacking the Bhilwara bowlers all around the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. In his hitting clinic, the Jamaican big hitter attempted to play a pull shot where his bat broke into two pieces against Ryan Sidebottom. Despite a broken bat, the ball zoomed to the boundary rope for a four.

After this minor hiccup, Chris Gayle continued his batting carnage and posted a score of 52 in 27 balls with two sixes and eight fours. Gayle's half-century combined with crucial knocks by Richard Levi, Abhishek Jhunjunwala and Chirag Khurana, the Gujarat Giants posted a competitive total of 172 runs.
With the bowl, the Bhilwara Kings had a decent performance as Rahul Sharma and Jesal Karia each picked up two wickets while giving away 41 runs in their eight overs. Unlike these two bowlers, Sidebottom (0-35) and Christopher Barnwell (1-45) went for plenty of runs.
