Vitality Blast 2023, the domestic T20 competition is in full swing in England and Wales currently. This tournament has been a witness to some of the most fascinating cricket over the years, especially in the fielding side of things. On June 16, Friday, we saw another example of quality teamwork on the boundary rope when Yorkshire players pulled off an incredible catch against Leicestershire.
At Headingley in Leeds, on the second ball of the ninth over, bowled by Ben Mike to Rishi Patel, the Leicestershire batter smashed it high in the air towards the straight boundary. David Wiese of Yorkshire, who was fielding at long-on, ran at least 10 metres to leap in the air and grab hold of the ball. As he was falling over the ropes, the Yorkshire fielder had the wherewithal to throw the ball towards his captain Shan Masood, arriving from mid-off region, who helped complete the catch.
Watch the catch here:
Notably, Leicestershire ended up getting a decent score of 195/5 in their allotted 20 overs at Headingley. Louis Kimber top scored for his side with 59 runs off 38 deliveries with five fours and two maximums.
But, Yorkshire, at their home ground, made light work of the run chase, as they managed to achieve victory in the 19th over. They finished the high scoring match with 197/2 in 18.1 overs to hand a humbling to Leicestershire. Adam Lyth stayed not out with 90 off 50 deliveries, including 12 fours and two sixes, while his opening partner, Dawid Malan got 79 runs off 45 deliveries with nine fours and three maximums.
With this important win, Yorkshire jumped to second place in the Vitality Blast 2023 North Group standings, with six wins and three losses. Meanwhile, Leicestershire slipped to the bottom place with just two victories and seven defeats.
