Adding to MI's problems, Sisanda Magala sent out a slower ball off-cutter outside off stump. Stubbs smashed the ball down the ground and as it landed towards the long off boundary. Here Pretorius miss judged the ball and took the catch while back. In fear of touching the boundary, he scooped up the ball which was comfortably taken by Ruturaj Gaikwad.

This catch once again put a stop to Mumbai Indians as they only managed to score 157 runs in their 20 overs. Reacting to this performance, CSK all-rounder Mitchell Santner was extremely happy with the team's bowling and expressed that the pitch was allowing spinners to get some turn. This allowed him and Ravindra Jadeja to perform well.
He said, "The total is a bit bel ow par. It did spin a bit, with slower balls holding up. Started pretty flat. Hopefully, the dew will play a factor as well. We saw a couple grip so I went a bit slower to get overspin, and Jadeja always bowls well. The atmosphere is awesome, first time in a few years. It was a cracking crowd when we played at home as well, definitely different from New Zealand."
