As ton Villa defeated Manchester United 3-1 on Sunday to snap their nine-game unbeaten streak across all competitions this season. Lucas Digne scored a stunning freekick in the 11th minute to give Aston Villa a 2-0 lead against the Red Devils as Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez helped his side to block David de Gea's vision.
Manchester United were exposed by Aston Villa as the United defenders failed to control the counterattacks by the hosts while Cristiano Ronaldo-led United's attack struggled to score a goal. The Red Devils only goal was an own goal that came off Villa defender Jacob Ramsey from left-back Luke Shaw's strike in the last minute of the first half.
During the 10th minute into the game, Luke Shaw gifted a 22-yard freekick to the Unai Emery's side with his late sliding challenge on Ramsey. French defender Lucas Digne stepped up to take the freekick while goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez set up Villa's wall to block United goalkeeper David de Gea's vision. As a result, the 29-year-old Digne scored a sublime freekick into the near post to take his team on a two-goal lead.

Additionally, legendary striker Cristiano Ronaldo was involved in a heated altercation with villa defender Tyrone Mings, a minute after the one-hour mark on the clock. Referee Anthony Taylor intervened and showed yellow cards to the involved footballers.
With this loss, Man United maintained their fifth position in the Premier League 2022-23 standings with 23 points in 13 games. On the other hand, Aston Villa climbed to the 13th place with four victories in 14 matches. United will next host Aston Villa in the third round of the EFL Cup on Thursday.
