During the 18th match of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Erin Burns made a stunning save on the boundary at mid-wicket, at the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) Ground, on Tuesday, October 31. The 35-year-old showcased her impressive athletic ability, to give away only two runs instead of a possible maximum, but her effort couldn’t inspire the Sydney Sixers, who succumbed to a 36-run loss against Perth Scorchers.
The moment occurred on the final ball of the Perth Scorchers’ batting innings, when Alana King took strike against Ashleigh Gardner of the Sydney Sixers. She attempted a slog sweep on the ball which was pitched outside the off stump and spooned it in the air towards the mid-wicket region.

Erin Burns, who was fielding at mid-wicket region, grabbed hold of the ball, but upon realising that the momentum was carrying her over the boundary rope, she threw the ball up. Then, in a split second, she balanced herself and flew in the air, to keep the ball from landing on the other side of the boundary rope, falling there herself in the process, before getting up to throw the ball back to bowler Ashleigh Gardner, while ensuring that only two runs were taken.
Perth Scorchers ended their innings for 166/8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to the quick-fire 30s from Beth Mooney and Alana King. In the run chase, Ellyse Perry the captain got a fifty for the Sydney Sixers, but the rest of their batting lineup succumbed to the pressure created by the opposition, mustering up only 130/9 on the board, with Amy Edgar picking up four wickets.
