The New Zealand international Finn Allen was involved in a bizarre run-out during the fourth match of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 at the Grand Prairie Stadium. On July 15, Friday, this dismissal proved very costly for San Francisco Unicorns as they lost the game to Seattle Orcas with a margin of 35 runs.
It was the SEO captain Wayne Parnell, who won the toss and decided to bat first against SFU during the Friday night contest. The batting lineup delivered the results, starting with Nauman Anwar, the American opening batter, who scored 30 off 21 deliveries with five fours. Shehan Jayasuriya, the former Sri Lanka international, got an enterprising 33 off 27 balls to put the side in a commanding position.

Then, the overseas duo in the middle order for Seattle were brilliant with the bat. The South African Heinrich Klaasen put together a well-compiled 53 off 31 deliveries with four fours and three maximums. Meanwhile, Shimon Hetmyer of the West Indies put the finishing touches with a quick-fire 36 to help propel the team’s total to 177/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
In the run chase, the start from San Francisco was quite exceptional as they raced to 41/0 after the first three overs. But, on the fourth ball of the fourth over from Cameron Gannon, the SFU opener Finn Allen played a flick stroke towards the leg and started strolling nonchalantly towards the non-striker’s end. The fielder at mid-wicket, Shehan Jayasuriya sensed that the batter was far away from the crease and took the opportunity to throw the ball towards the stumps.

When Allen realized that his wicket wasn't safe, he tried to plonk his bat inside the crease. But, it got stuck in the turf outside of the crease as the ball hit the stumps. The instant reaction to the dismissal from the New Zealand batter was sheer disgust before he walked back to the pavilion.
