1983 World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth accused Indian batting star Shubman Gill of faking neck injury. Gill is undoubtedly one of the biggest new sensations in the current Indian cricket sphere. The batter is often regarded as the next big thing for the kind of performances he has delivered in all formats, especially at number 3 in Test cricket. However, the batter had to miss the first Test against New Zealand because of a stiff neck, and it goes without saying that the Indian team had to pay a heavy price for his absence. The Rohit Sharma-led side registered their lowest-ever Test score at home after getting bowled out for just 46.
Virat Kohli, the former Indian skipper and modern-day batting icon filled in at number 3, but couldn’t do anything. He was dismissed for a duck in the first innings against the Kiwis. Before the Test, there were reports doing rounds that Gill had been suffering from a stiff neck. The pain, reportedly, didn’t allow him to take part in the Test.

After India’s embarrassing performance in the first innings against the Kiwis at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, former India opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth accused Gill of faking the injury. The 1893 World Cup winner made the big claim on his YouTube channel. The former batter was visibly disappointed with Gill’s absence from the match and claimed that he faked the injury.
Speaking of the match, New Zealand pulled off a total of 402 runs. After a forgetful first innings, the home side made a remarkable comeback with the bat and narrowed down the bridge to 12 runs before rain stopped the game. On fourth day, as rain played spoilsport, Khan was batting on 125 while Pant was on 53*.
