The Glenn Maxwell-led Melbourne Stars have regained their form as they are on a four-match winning streak in the 2023-24 Big Bash League. In Match 23 of the ongoing T20 league, the Stars took on Melbourne Renegades in the Melbourne derby at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Tuesday, 2 January 2024.
The Stars after winning the toss, invited the Renegades to put the score first on the board. However, with rain coming into play, the Renegades inning was reduced to 14-over side. On the back of a 16-ball 23 from Quinton de Kock, the Will Sutherland-led side posted 97/7 in the 14 overs. This score was comfortably chased by the Stars on a back of a brilliant unbeaten 46-run knock by Maxwell in 12.1 overs.
However, in the 11th over of the Stars inning, the Aussie all-rounder hit spinner Adam Zampa for three back-to-back maximums. On the third delivery of the 11th over, Maxwell cleared the front leg to cross the boundary rope. Meanwhile he smashed the ball for back-to-back sixes.
