India captain Harmanpreet Kaur got dismissed bizarrely in the ongoing Test against England at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Mumbai. The batter fell prey to England’s run-out tactics when she tried to steal a single. With the dismissal, Kaur missed the maiden Test half-century by just one run. Earlier, the hosts won the toss and invited their English counterparts to field first. Indian cricketers including the likes of Jemimah Rodrigues, Renuka Thakur, and Shubha Satheesh made their Test debuts.
India lost their debutants Rodrigues and Sateesh after they scored their respective half-centuries. By the tea break on Day 1, India scored 261 runs at the loss of four wickets. Kaur built a decent 116-run partnership with wicketkeeper batter Yastika Bhatia, who earlier completed her half-century. With the 50-run mark, Bhatia became the third Indian batter to get a half-century on the first day of the only Women’s Test.
Harmanpreet Kaur suffers bizarre run out; misses half-century by one run
Indian skipper suffered an unexpected run-out that put an end to the 116-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The 34-year-old was batting at 49 when she tried to steal a single after finding Dani Wyatt at mid-off. However, Bhatia at the other end wasn’t interested and sent the skipper back. Before Kaur could reach back, her bat got stuck at the edge of the crease.
The decision was left to the third umpire and replays showed Harmanpreet being just outside the crease when wicketkeeper Amy Jones dislodged the bails. The right-handed batter had to walk off at 49 off 81 deliveries.
