The Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings are hosting Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals in their tournament opener at the Maharaja Y.S. International Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh in the first match of first double-header of IPL 2024. After being invited to bat first, the Pant-led side posted 174 runs on the board with some crucial knocks from Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, Shai Hope, Abhishek Porel and some others.
As they took the field with Punjab eyeing to chase 175 total, Ishant Sharma drew the first blood. The Indian veteran dismissed PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan, who departed having scored 22 runs, he was forced to walk out of the field after he twisted his ankle in in the sixth over.
Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who was reintroduced into the attack to bowl the sixth over of the Punjab innings. While he bowled a slower good length delivery in the middle, Prabhsimran Singh flicked it towards deep mid-wicket. Ishant Sharma however, collected the ball but twisted his ankle in the process.
The 35-year-old looked in pain as he was seen clutching to his right ankle. The DC skipper was quick to call in the physio, leading Ihant Sharma to hobble out of the park in pain.

However, Pravin Dubey replaced Ishant Sharma in the middle as the games resumed in Mullanpur. Speaking of the match, at the end of sixth over, Punjab Kings scorecard read 60/2 with Sam Curran (9) and Prabhsimran Singh (17) looking good in the middle.
