Jon Scheyer, the Duke head coach, cut down the net for the first-time in his career as part of the tradition after his team defeated Alabama with a comprehensive margin of 20 points in the NCAA tournament. In the one-sided contest, the Blue Devils were able to get the better of the Crimson Tide with a scoreline of 85-65, leading from the start to finish on the back of their balanced performance, especially dominating in the attacking side of things.

Notably, according to the tradition in collegiate basketball, Jon Scheyer climbed the ladder to cut down the final loop of the net connecting to the rim. He also waved it over his head to the cheers of the crowd at the Prudential Center in Newark, which he took with himself as a keepsake, and now he will be preparing Duke for the final four in his third season with them.

Jon Scheyer became the head coach of Duke after the retirement of Mike Krzyzewski, one of the legendary head coaches in the history of the NCAA tournament, and after three years of hard work and dedication, he has taken them a step closer to the big dance. He was previously a part of the staff of Mike Krzyzewski as an assistant when Duke made it to the final four of the NCAA tournament twice.

During Duke’s comprehensive win over Alabama, Kon Knueppel scored team-high 21 points with five rebounds and five assists, while his teammate Cooper Flagg scored 16 points of his own along with nine rebounds and three assists as well. They were quite good in defence too, keeping Mark Sears of Alabama at bay, allowing the star player to score just six points on 2-of-12 shooting, apart from inflicting five turnovers on him.
