In the main event of UFC 291, the American Justin Gaethje knocked out his fellow countryman Dustin Poirier with a clean head kick to claim the “BMF” title on July 29, Saturday. With this massive victory, Gaethje also avenged the TKO loss to Poirier, in the fourth round via punches, during their first meeting at the UFC Fight Night in 2018.
On Saturday night, at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Justin Gaethje had better of the exchanges with Dustin Poirier in the first round of their highly anticipated lightweight division match. In the second round, Poirier tried to bring the fight to Gaethje, but he got tagged with a big right hand instead.
Then, Justin Gaethje managed to connect with a clean head kick that knocked down Dustin Poirier to the mat, which made the referee Herb Dean put the stop to the contest at 1:00 minute of the second round. With this, he earned the title of “Baddest Mother******,” a gimmick which came into existence when Jorge Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz to become first champion, who relinquished it after retirement earlier this year.

In the post-fight interview, Justin Gaethje was quoted as saying, “This is unlike any other sport on earth, because you barely get a chance at redemption. We take a loss, we have to sit at home and let it eat away at us. We usually never get that chance. So, to come back and prove my self, I believed in myself the whole time.”
Some of the other major results at the UFC 291 are as under:
