On day two of the second Test match between South Africa and Sri Lanka at the St George’s Park in Gqeberha, Kagiso Rabada broke his bat in half on the bowling of Lahiru Kumara. The surprising turn of events happened during the first session of play in the South Africa innings, which eventually folded for 358 runs in 103.4 overs after Kyle Verreyene and Ryan Rickelton scored hundreds, while captain Temba Bavuma got a fifty of his own.
In the 90th over of the South African innings on the second day, Kagiso Rabada, who was new at the crease, got a short of a good length delivery from Lahiru Kumara from around the wicket, which he defended on the back foot, only to break his bat in half. The top handle of the bat of Kagiso Rabada will need changing before he goes on to use it once again for batting either in competitive cricket or the nets.
