Kane Williamson-led New Zealand are taking on Bangladesh at the MZ Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 13. The match saw the Kiwis won the toss and invite the Shakib Al Hasan-led side to bat first. In their 50 over inning, the Bangla Tigers amassed 245 runs at the fall of nine wickets, courtesy a brilliant inning from skipper Shakib and wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim.

However, the target posted by the Bangladesh side seemed quite easy to chase for the Kiwis as they took less than 45 overs to cross the winning line. While Devon Conway gave a good start to the side up the order, skipper Kane Williamson started his World Cup campaign on a positive note, hitting his firsts half-century of CWC 2023 in his first appearance, who was well supported by Daryl Mitchell.
However, Kane Williamson’s inning was cut short after he got a blow on his left hand in the 38th over. On the first ball of the 38th over, Williamson who was taking his run-up got hit on his thumb as the throw missed the wickets. While he received some treatment at that point of point despite looking in serious pain, the veteran finally called in to return to the pavilion in the next over, facing difficulty in the middle.
