The Bangladesh - Sri Lanka rivalry witnessed another entertaining incident which saw Bangla fast bowler Khaled Ahmed make a daring move by attempting a run out at the non-striker’s end which didn't end well for him. After being under pressure on Day 1 of the first Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, the Lankans rallied with quality tons from captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis.
De Silva and Mendis continued this stunning form in the second innings by scoring another set of centuries. The duo added over 100 runs for the seventh wicket, further piling the pressure on Bangladesh, who were eager to secure a breakthrough and get back into the contest.
Khaled Ahmed embarrassingly misses Mankad run out
In the 63rd over of the Sri Lankan innings, when Dhananjaya de Silva was at the striker's end, the 31-year-old charged in. Nearing the stumps, Ahmed attempted a Mankad with Kamindu Mendis at the non-striker’s end. While it was a great opportunity, Ahmed embarrassingly missed his attempt to dislodge the stumps was unsuccessful.

After this incident, the pair continued scoring well but De Silva departed at 108 in 179 balls. Despite losing his partner, Mendis continued scoring well and was the last batter to get out. The 25-year-old eventually got out after posting 164 in 237 balls with 16 fours and six sixes and helped set a massive 511-run target. Riding on this momentum, Sri Lankans ran through the Bangladeshi batting lineup as they reduced the hosts to 47-5 at the end of Day 3.
