On Sunday, September 1, Real Madrid defeated Real Betis 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in the La Liga fixture to secure second position in the points table. Madrid’s new signing, Kylian Mbappe, who failed to get the back of the net in team’s opening three games, finally got his first goals with the club in Madrid’s 2-0 win.
The French footballer, who was made to wait, finally found the ball in the back of the net in the 67th minute, hitting back at the criticism from the Spanish media. In the 67th minute of the game, Fede Valverde perfectly timed the ball, which allowed Mbappe to whisk the ball past the Betis goalkeeper with his left foot to get his first in the league. According to sources, Mbappe last scored against Atlanta in the UEFA Super Cup.
Soon after his first goal, Mbappe doubled the tally, getting the back of the net eight minutes later from a penalty shoot-out. The France captain found the back of the net in the 84th minute from a penalty spot and was soon after replaced by Luka Modric.
He’s playing very well: Carlo Ancelotti responds positively to criticism for French winger
After Mbappe failed to get on the scoring charts in the opening three games, Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti responded positively on criticism on Kylian Mbappe. He instead added that the French footballer is adapting nicely. “It’s true that he hasn’t scored but he’s playing very well and has been very dangerous every time. I don’t think he has any problems adapting,” Ancelotti said, indirectly pointing at the lack of balance in the team.
Madrid however stands four points behind table-toppers, Barcelona, they will next take on Real Sociedad on Sunday, September 15 at the Reale Arena in San Sebastian.
