A Leeds fan fell from the top tier of Stamford Bridge during the FA Cup fifth-round clash against Chelsea on February 29, Friday (IST). The incident occurred when Leeds took the lead in the first half through a goal from Mateo Joseph. The fan, sitting in the upper tier of Chelsea’s away section, Shed End, fell to the lower tier while celebrating the goal. The medical support rushed to the spot and subsequent treatment was given by the medical staff and was later taken to the nearby hospital. Not only this but police were also spotted at the site after the incident took place.
After the incident, a London Ambulance Service spokesperson told The Athletic, “Shortly before 8 pm on Wednesday 28th February, we received reports that a person had fallen from a height at Chelsea football club in Fulham Road. Alongside colleagues from St John Ambulance and doctors from the club, an ambulance crew on the scene treated a man before taking him to a London Major trauma centre.”
In an official statement, Chelsea FC confirmed the incident saying, “Chelsea FC can confirm an incident involving a Leeds United supporter occurred in the Shed End of Stamford Bridge during the first half of tonight’s FA Cup game. The incident is being invested and is in the hands of the emergency services.” Talking about the clash, Chelsea defeated Leeds United 3-2 to book a quarter-final date with Leicester City.
Leeds’ Mateo Joseph emerged as the side's star player, having scored both goals for the side in the eighth and 59th minute of the game. On the other hand, Chelsea FC’s goals came from Nicolas Jackson, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Conor Gallagher in the 15th, 37th and 90th, respectively.
